The Winter Olympics is a series of sports competions all having to do with snow or ice, and have been held since 1924, being held first in France. Since then, the United States have had the Winter Olympics the most often, holding them 4 times. They only time they have been interrupted was for World War Two, and in 1992, the International Olympic Committee changed the year the games were held from the same year as the Summer games, to the games going in 2 year intervals. Cross country skiing, figure skating, ice hockey, the nordic combined, ski jumping, and speed skating are the only sports that have been competed in at every winter games. Some sports, like luge, bobsled, moguls and snowboarding have earned a permanent spot in the games. The 2010 games are set in Vancouver, Canada, and the next Winter Olympics are in 2014, in Sochi, Russia, which will be Russia's first Winter Olympics.
